The 3.5-Mile Swim Across the St. Johns
Raising Awareness for the St. Johns River
Visit the Press Coverage page to see what everyone’s saying about SASJ.
The Expeditions—We explore the river as a crew, and as open-water swimmers, observing the environment, studying the currents and temperature changes as we learn the river’s moods and behaviors. This may be the richest part of the journey. See the GPS map for the expedition tracks. Would you like to join us? Scheduled from May through October. Click here for more info about the Expeditions.
The Solo Swim Across the St. Johns River—On July 17, 2011, Jim Alabiso swam 3.5 miles in 2 hours and 3 minutes from Fleming Island Marina at Doctors Lake across to County Dock next to Walter Jones Historical Park in Mandarin. Click here for more info about the Solo Swim.
The Race Across the St. Johns River—The summer expeditions and solo swim pave the way for a race across the river so we may share the experience with our fellow open-water swimmers and tri athletes. The challenges of this swim include current, winds, and navigation. This could prove to be a highly competitive race. Email us if you’re interested in participating as a swimmer, crew member, or organizer. We hope to make this annual event. Scheduled for 2012. Date to be announced. Click here for more information about the Race.
